Anti-Virus

Every computer that has access to the internet should be running antivirus software.  There are many anti-virus vendors including; Norton Antivirus, McAfee Virusscan, AVG and Trend Micro.  Most of these vendors also have personal firewall products.  AVG also has a free version of their virus protection available at http://free.grisoft.com.

Spy-Ware

Just because your not paranoid doesn't mean that your not being watched!  These programs will track down and remove potential spy-ware from from your computer.  Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy are the two most well known.  The Yahoo Toolbar now contains a spyware removal tool so it also makes it to the recommended list.

POP-UP stopper

Once again there are several to choose from.  My personal favorite is the Google Toolbar.  Not only does it do a good job at blocking pop-ups, it also lets you search from your toolbar.  You can download it here.  The Yahoo Toolbar now contains a spyware removal tool so it also makes it to the recommended list.
